Hutheng Island PRINT + PDF

Hutheng is a large volcanic island in the Sea of Itikir off the most northwesterly part of Ivinia. To many, it is the edge of the known world, a land of wilderness and ice surrounding a chain of volcanoes. The north side of the island is home to nomadic Yarili tribesmen whose ancestors first settled the island more than a thousand years ago. By the 4th century TR, Ivinian colonists had established settlements on Hutheng, mostly along the southern coast. Today, residents of those settlements eke out a living from whaling, sealing, fishing, and hunting, supported by mining and subsistence farming. Foremost among the settlements are Inlevik and Yafors, whose ruling clans pay tribute to Menglana's King Hlanakar III of Clan Stahler.

Hutheng's inhabitants are under pressure from several directions. It is widely known that the King of Rogna, an island kingdom to the south, wishes to annex Hutheng and is planning to attack this year. Meanwhile, the ruling clans of the island's two major settlements have an uneasy relationship and factions of the Agrikan Church are seeking to exert their influence over the island.

This article gives an overview of the history, terrain, flora & fauna, points of interest, and living conditions on Hutheng. There are also two in-depth sections detailing the settlements of Inlevik and Yafors, including their history, government, religion, economics, and military forces.
